Despite the lure of the internet marketplace, shopping locally is the most direct and commonsense way to support the local economy. Money spent locally works locally. Money spent on line generally does not help pay a local wage or a local tax. As the owner of a retail business for over 40 years, I know how important it is that folks understand the value of shopping near their home. There is a stark difference between shopping on the internet or shopping locally. Internet dollars leave the community forever. Locally spent dollars circulate nearby and contribute to the economic health of the community.
