We all – rich, poor and in between – need to be more concerned about how much waste we generate. For the good of the planet and our local communities we all need to reduce unnecessary consumption. We do not need resource reduction police, but households can be more aware of ways in which they can reduce the amount of material they contribute to the waste stream. This is an education project the County should be undertaking to reduce the costs and pollution associated with disposing of household waste.
Renewables – County and town governments should be purchasing energy efficient vehicles when new vehicles are needed. All County buildings should have solar energy installations where possible.
Solar – With the steady decrease in the cost of solar power installations, more and more people are turning to the sun for their electrical energy. For houses not suited or situated for collecting the sun’s rays, the concept of community solar is emerging. Towns and the County need to develop policies to regulate these facilities.
